In the mail today was a Halloween costume catalog. Everyone was excited to glance through it and begin getting ideas for October. I let Janna look at it while I’m looking over her shoulder. Then I get a hold of the costumes and I’m fuming.
First off, why must all female adult costumes be sexy/sultry? I like to dress up for Halloween too. But I’m not going to dress sexy to go trick-or-treating with my children, to my church party, or even my neighborhood costume party. Women can be seen as something other than sex objects and I hate that my options are so limited. I could either make it myself or spend a lot of time and money trying to find something appropriate. I understand there is a market for adult sexy costumes, I don’t have a problem with that. The problem I have is where are my options?
Then we get to the little girl outfits. The teen costumes are just as skimpy as the adult women. Here are these great outfits for boys, covering everything up. This trend has now reached the girls section. If you are a little girl your choices are scanty dresses showing off your legs, shoulders and any other body part the makers can get away with. There are few other options so some parents buy these trashy outfits and then add shirts underneath or leggings to make them more appropriate.
Enough people, don’t buy this trash. Don’t teach your daughter she is merely an object to be desired and her worth is based on how she looks and what she is willing to show. Contact these companies, complain at your local stores and do not purchase these things for your little girls. My eight year old doesn’t need to know what the word sexy means. I shouldn’t need to have a conversation about body image with her this young. I refuse to buy into this and I urge other responsible parents to join me.
Okay, thanks for reading. I'll get off my soap box now.

Late nights
We got home late last night so I rushed to put the girls to bed. As I'm in with Janna I can hear Kennedy and Courntey talking, singing together and giggling. I go in and ask, "what's going on in here?" Courtney calls out, "I'm singing with my best friend."
Kennedy asked me to sing her the ABC song, when I started she jumped up and started dancing.

Lake Conroe
The last week of summer was super busy and completely fun. We did our annual back to school beach trip and on Saturday we spent the day with friends at the Huntsville State Park.

First day of 3rd Grade
Janna had her first day of school yesterday. David took her to school on the motorcycle which she thought was wonderful. They have done this the last few years and it's a fun bonding time for both of them. They stopped by the Sowa's house to have bagels & first day of school photos with friends. Today the twins and I went to have lunch with her. Kennedy asked me if she could stay there and go to school. I was trying to explain that she isn't old enough but we kept getting interrupted by all of Janna's friends stopping by to say hello and hug her all the girls. Kennedy looks at me and says, "See, we already know everyone here."
