So much happened this weekend that I simply wanted to share. It started Friday night. I had heard there would be meteor showers visible in the night sky. Janna and I grabbed sleeping bags and slept on the porch off the master bedroom upstairs. We chatted, laughed, ate popcorn and stared as hard as we could until around 1:30 a.m. but we never did see anything. It was fun trying!
Saturday we went to Virginia City for the Memorial Day parade. They do it on Saturday here so people can go visit gravesites on Monday. For the last several years we have spent this day at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Houston visiting my Grandpa George's grave. It was hard to miss that. But we had a wonderful time in Virginia City. We didn't know the parade gave out candy so the girls were even more thrilled. My favorite part, as we walked around after the parade if my girls saw a Veteran they would offer to share their candy. :) It was an honor to be there.
I had dressed everyone in red, white and blue so the girls got a lot of attention. We even made it on the local news.
David set up the tent in the backyard so that night the twins and I slept outside. It gets cold here in the evenings so it felt great. Although I don't do that well sleeping on the floor. It's worth it to share the experience with my girls.
Sunday we had a lovely day at church. I started my new calling, teaching the 10-11 year old Sunday School class. I'm Janna's teacher but instead of this being a problem, she was thrilled to have me. I have a feeling I'm making cookies next Sunday for my class.
The twins and I slept in tent again - I didn't get much sleep. It's amazing what an energy drink will do to help with that.
Monday we headed up to Lake Tahoe to enjoy a day on the water. Cathy Green and three of her children came with us. Her husband was out of town and her oldest wasn't feeling well so they missed it. Cathy had mentioned that she has lived here seven years and never been!!! We were thrilled to have them and it was fun to have playmates for our kids. We even took Ginger with us. Everyone had a great time.
I found sunblock that actually works for me so I'm only burned in the places I didn't reach :)
At home I was helping David with the garden. I picked up some dead leaves and my left hand swelled up like a balloon. It would seem I'm allergic to some of the plants here. David will be removing said plant tonight!

Curls curls curls
While at the mall this young lady asked if she could do my hair. When I said no thanks, Courtney asked if she could have hers done. However, Janna and Kennedy wanted nothing to do with getting their hair done.

Play date
We have a neighbor/friend who has 10 children. They have two children on their own and have adopted the other eight. This means they have two teenagers, two adult children, three 7 year olds, two 8 year olds, and one 6 year old. The kids have a blast playing with them and it's complete chaos when they get together.
Yesterday the mom texted me right before school got out and asked if I could get the five of them off the bus since she was still downtown with the others at appointments. As they got off the bus and I told them everyone went screaming with joy to my house. About five minutes later I get a knock at my door. It's a little girl from down the street who has never been here. She asks, "did all those kids just come into your house to play?" I replied yes, "so she says can I come in to play too?" So I ushered her in and said, "there are some upstairs, some in the living in the room and some in the playroom - take your pick." I had a so many kids running around here I felt like the old lady who lived in the shoe :)

Mothers Day poem - by Janna
In school the students read "I love you purple" and were then asked to write their own version for mothers day. This is what Janna wrote to me. It is the most beautiful thing I've ever read. It makes me cry but in the very best way.
Funny thing, she signed it "your oldest" and it made me laugh. She said she did it because she knew it would make me laugh. She's right. What she didn't know, I used to sign my letters to my mom, "Christina, your youngest" and I did it for the same reason. I knew it would make her laugh.
Mom,
I love you the REDEST
I love you the color of an autumn tree
the sound of the ocean beating against rocks
the feeling of sunshine against my face
I love you like I always have
the warmth of a fire on a chilly day
the way you smile at me
I love you the REDEST
love
Janna Sorensen
your oldest

Big Bang
As you know I am a HUGE Big Bang Theory fan. I just love that show! This means that my children have seen more than their share of episodes as well. I knew they liked the show too when they learned all the words to the theme song.

Kennedy's picture
While I was working outside the girls were drawing chalk pictures on the driveway. I see Kennedy's and I asked if it was a bunny? She said,"no mom it's a rhinoceros!"
